FAQs About Locksmiths and Key Security

Can a locksmith make a key without the original?

It is possible but we recommend you replace your locks if you have lost all keys, especially as you won’t know who has picked them up and pose as a security risk.

Will my locksmith know how many copies I’ve made?

No, once we hand over your keys, any additional copies made elsewhere aren’t tracked by us. If you have a high security lock, you will only be able to cut additional keys from the master key which has a code on it. Don’t forget to make a note of how many keys you have in total and who has them so you can track if any go missing!

Is it safe to give a locksmith access to my home?

Absolutely. All Keytek® locksmiths are DBS checked, fully trained and friendly! Our locksmiths carry an ID badge with them to all jobs so you can ask to check it before allowing them into your home.

How much does it cost to get a new lock and keys?

You can expect to pay the labour rate, plus the new parts, plus VAT for your new lock and keys. Give us a call for a free, no obligation quote on 0330 332 0589 or take a look at our Locksmiths Prices page!
