Before you replace your car key battery unnecessary run through our checklist to rule out another fault.

1.      Try Another Key

An easy test is to just try another car key. If that works jump down to How to Replace a Car Key Battery.

2.      Check Car Manual Locks

If your car won’t unlock when using an alternative key or the car doesn’t unlock when using the key manually, it won’t be down to a flat battery. It may be due to the cars locking mechanism becoming faulty or in some cases the remote entry feature may have become disabled. In which care the car key will need reprogramming. How to Replace Car Key Battery

Replacing your car key battery is quick, cheap, and easy.

1.      Open the Car Key Fob

Gently prise open the fob using a flat head screwdriver.

2.      Check the Battery

Make a note of the battery code before buying a new one to ensure correct replacement. It usually starts with two letters followed by some numbers.

3.      Finalise

Place the new battery inside the fob, put the casing back on and dispose of the old battery correctly. Be warned these round type batteries are extremely dangerous to children and animals who may swallow them accidentally.

1.      Replace sooner rather than later!

If your car key battery is left outside of the car key fob for too long, it may stop communicating with the car. If this happens you will need specialist help from an Auto Locksmith who will reprogram your car key.
