How to Install a Lock on a Wooden Gate

1. Placement
The first step is to choose the placement of where you want your lock, taking into consideration how high you want it to be.
2. Drilling
Drill the top and the bottom fixing holes as well as the centre hole to match the diameter of the lock.
3. Insert Screws
Insert the screws into the top and bottom fixing holes that were made by the drill.
4. Insert Spindle
Insert the spindle through the centre hole that was made by the drill.
5. Fit the Lock
Fit the lock with wooden screws into the gate, making sure the lock with the latch and cover are attached onto the spindle.

Hasp and Staple Lock
This lock has a hinged hasp which is fitted to the gate, and the loop on the plate (the staple) which is fitted onto the gate frame. The hasp secures onto the stable and can then be locked with a good high-quality for extra security. However, it can only be accessed from one side of the gate, which can make it inconvenient to use.

There are four different kinds of latches: thumb, ring, lever, and bolt. A latch is a metal bar with a lever that raises and lowers to open the gate, and you can open the door from either side.

Installing a Double Throw Gate Lock for your wooden gate gives you the option of keyed access from either side of the gate. It locks by rotating several times and throwing the bolt from one side to the other. The benefit of these locks is that you can add these to both single and double gates for security.

No keys are required for this lock, just a combination code. This can either be single-sided, so you can only open and close the gate from one side or have a handle on the inside of the garden to easily open it without a combination or have a double-sided lock, so you’ll need to enter the code to get in or out of your garden.
